Bobby, Peter and Simba reach the top of Maulin

Description: We still remained a party of three this week with the group consisting of Bobby, Eoin and Peter - our only improvement in numbers being Simba. I guess the good thing about having a small group was that we set off on time - after a cup of coffee at Poppies in Enniskerry we set out to the start of the walk from Crone Car Park at exactly 11 o’clock (that must be a first for leaving on time!).

Leaving the car park we followed a very gentle gradient along forest track for the first fifteen minutes. Things then got very soggy as we came off the track and went cross-country across the base of the beautiful Raven’s Glen.

The toughest part of the walk came next as we trudged steeply uphill for around half an hour, carefully negotiating boulders. When we reached the top of the wall though, the open moorland beckoned and things soon became a lot easier. Our main difficulties were the large pockets of snow still remaining - Simba had a great time rolling around in these though.

We soon chalked of Tonduff South and followed our compass bearings through the mist to find Tonduff North where we found a great spot for lunch, tucked in out of the cold breeze. After that we came out of the cloud and approached Maulin from the West before dropping down the Glensoulan Valley and following the Wicklow Way back to Crone Car Park.

Roll Call: Bobby, Eoin, Peter and Simba!
