Description: Congratulations to Peter for completing this grueling 55km challenge walk in a little over 16 hours!
The challenge walks retraces the historical footsteps of Art O’Neill and Red Hugh O’Donnell after their escape from prison on the 6th of January 1592. The walk is in memory of Art who perished in the cold in the Wicklow Mountains.
Starting from Dublin Castle at midnight on the 10th of January, Peter made his way along the road to the Kippure Estate and then off-road up to Black Hill at which point dawn began to break. He then rounded the shoulder of Moanbane and descended to Ballinagee Bridge for a second quick break. The route then passed Art’s Grave and up to Art’s Cross, over the shoulder of Table Mountain and down to Barravore to the finish line.
Colette and Eoin gave some back-up support to Peter by meeting up at various points throughout the walk to provide changes of clothes, footwear and additional food supplies. Maria and Mark also joined the party to walk the final leg of the walk down to Barravore in the Glenmalure Valley.
Roll Call: Colette, Eoin, Maria, Mark and Peter
